About the Event
Throughout her life, Jane and the members of her household belonged to circulating libraries and reading societies, another source of books, including current titles. Her brother Edward inherited Godmersham Park, which contained a library, for which the 1818 catalog still exists. Since reading for Jane Austen was not primarily a solitary activity, Susan Allen Ford (Delta State University) will show evidence of sociable reading in her community of great readers.
