About the Event
Throughout her life, Jane and the members of her household belonged to circulating libraries and reading societies, another source of books, including current titles. Â Her brother Edward inherited Godmersham Park, which contained a library, for which the 1818 catalog still exists. Â Since reading for Jane Austen was not primarily a solitary activity, Susan Allen Ford (Delta State University) will show evidence of sociable reading in her community of great readers.
