About the Event

From the balls in Pride and Prejudice to the assembly room concert in Persuasion, from Mary Crawford's harp to Jane Fairfax's piano, Austen's novels evoke a rich and meaningful world of musical sound. Using her research from the AHRC-funded project to digitize the Austen family music archive, Jeanice Brooks will delve into Austen’s own experience of making music, exploring her own and her family’s music books and the world of gentry music-making in Georgian England.
